I am very much concerned by proposals to cut Medicare and Social Security benefits, as one of the measures to cut federal spending. Instead of cutting the benefits I have earned, the government could cut ineffective forms of spending and raise revenues by progressive taxation. Congress should cut health care costs without cutting current benefits. I paid into Medicare and Social Security all my working life. I expect to continue to receive these benefits now that I am retired.

And the young people who are now paying into Social Security expect to receive their full benefits when they retire.

As citizens of this country, we ask you, our elected officials to Congress, to continue to represent
our citizens' rights to a just and fair social security benefits.

Sign petition to protect Medicare now

London residents riot over cuts in social services

Frustrations in this impoverished neighborhood, as in many others in Britain, has mounted as the government's austerity budget has forced deep cuts in social services.
---The New York Times, Aug. 8, 2011

Last Sunday's riot in London is just the latest of violent demonstrations that has erupted across Britain over the last few weeks.

We don't want such violence to happen here, where the elderly will take to the streets with their canes and in wheelchairs. And we don't need to. We have our elected officials in Congress to fight for our cause. And we shall hold them accountable to that.

So fill out the petition to protect Medicare, and mail to your legislators in Washington. The form is at borromeofaith.blogspot.com. (Our previous posts are also in this website.)

It's not too late to protect Medicare

BORROMEO FAITH for Social Justice

It's not too late to send your petition.

Although President Obama has signed the bill raising the debt ceiling, the new law does not specify which government spending should be cut or agencies to be abolished.

The new law will leave it to a bipartisan super-committee to be created afterward.

So the threat to Medicare benefits and Social Security checks is as real as ever. We need to be vigilant more than ever to protect our entitlements.

It's never too late them know how we feel about ominous assault on Social Security checks we have already earned.

Go to previous post and print out the petition form, sign in and mail to your legislators in Congress.

Petition to protect Medicare

Here's the petition you send to your congressmen and senators. Make copies and distribute to your friends and fellow senior citizens, and send to public officials who represent your State in Congress.

We don't have time. We have to take it upon ourselves to send this petition or we might lose most of our Medicare benefits. (Petition adapted from AARP's form.)

Remember, if we don't act, Congress could cut our Medicare and Social Security benefits.

Petition to: _______________________________
(Senator or Congressman representing your district)

I am very disturbed by proposals that would cut Medicare and Social Security benefits to address the federal deficit. Cutting the benefits I have earned , instead of cutting ineffective forms of government spending, is unfair to America's senior citizens.

To save money, Congress should effectively cut health care costs without cutting benefits. American workers pay into Medicare and Social Security with the expectation of receiving these benefits when they retire.

I recognize the need to contain our federal budget, but we must first reduce high health care costs, ineffective government spending and tax loopholes.

Sincerely,

Borromeo Faith for Social Security

Borromeo Faith to Protect Medicare

America is unique in being a country settled and built by immigrants. It is unique in being a universal nation. Almost every country, every language, and every culture is represented here.

The first immigrants came to America to escape religious and political persecution. When our forefathers established this nation, they guaranteed religious freedom in the Constitution.

Now with that religious freedom, we shall work for social justice as citizens of this wonderful country.

"He has told you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requires of you:
"Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk modestly with your God." (Mic 6.8)

"Let justice well up like water, righteousness like an unfailing stream." (Amos 5.24)

Our current activist cause is to protect Medicare from cuts and reduction of benefits.
